On Tuesday evening, July 14, the Cambridge/Arapahoe Gladiators hosted McCook MNB Seniors. The MNB Seniors won by a final score of 13-5.

The MNB Seniors got things going as B. Gullion reached on an error. Then, a one-out double by K. Rakes brought a run across. Gerlach did an excellent job limiting the damage and retiring a couple more batters. The Gladiators went to the home half of the first trailing just 1-0. The Gladiators got a man on base when Roy Hoelscher hit a single, but then a hard liner from Houston Billeter to shortstop turned into a double play, so we went to the second inning. Both pitchers, K. Rakes and Gerlach, kept up their strong play, and we went to the third inning with the MNB Seniors leading 1-0.

The MNB Seniors did get some run support in the top half of the inning. Gullion reached on a single and an error, and a couple of wild pitches led to him scoring. T. Raile singled later in the inning, and K. Sattler scored, pushing the lead to 3-0. With a couple of outs, Gerlach and Hoelscher reached base. Billeter hit a floating double to left-center field and scored both of them. Going to the fourth, it was 3-2 in favor of the MNB Seniors. In the top half of the inning, the MNB Seniors capitalized on some errors and wild pitches from the Gladiators. They were able to get out of the inning, but trailed 5-2.

The Gladiators couldn’t muster up any offense, and going into the fifth inning, it was 5-2. The MNB Seniors opened the game up a little as Sattler scored on a pass ball and A. Wilson hit a double to drive in a run. It was 7-2 going to the bottom of the fifth inning. The Gladiators got a run back as Houston Billeter hit a sacrifice fly, and Hoelscher came in to score, making it 7-3.

The Gladiators then walked the bases loaded, and Will Nickerson hit a single to make it 7-4. The score stayed that way heading into the top of the sixth inning. The MNB Seniors kept things going on offense as C. Block reached on an error with two outs and Sattler scored.

Wilson hit a single and another run scored, then, B Schlegel singled and another run came across. By the end of the first half of the sixth, McCook led 11-4. The Gladiators couldn’t get their offense going, and it was 11-4 heading to the final inning.

In the top of the seventh with two outs, Block hit a single to score a couple of runs, making it 13-4. That was the score heading to the bottom of the seventh. Braydon Miller hit a single to left, scoring Briggs Hill, and it was 13-5.

The MNB Seniors had 13 runs on 13 hits and no errors. Both T. Raile and A. Wilson had three hits. Wilson also had two RBIs, and C. Block had two RBIs. On the mound, K. Rakes went 4.0 innings, allowed four hits and two earned runs, and struck out eight. T. Raile, A. Wilson, and J. Samaniego all pitched in relief and combined for 3.0 innings pitched, five hits, three earned runs, and three strikeouts.

For Cambridge/Arapahoe, they had five runs on nine hits and five errors. Hoelscher and Billeter each had two hits. Billeter had two RBIs, and then Hill, Miller, and Nickerson each had an RBI. Also collecting hits were Gerlach, Boede Soncksen, and Jesse Mowry.

Gerlach led the pitching effort with 4.0 innings, six hits, two earned runs, two walks, and seven strikeouts. Will Nickerson pitched 2.1 innings, six hits, four earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts. Makaden Dunn went 0.2 innings, one hit, one walk, one strikeout, and no runs allowed.
